12th April 2020 – Dominic Cummings, lead government advisor, breaking lockdown Rules, drives around 30 minutes from his family farm to the town of Barnard Castle on Easter Sunday – 15 days after he had displayed symptoms – in an effort to test his eyesight and readiness to drive back to London (which is 300 miles away).

14th April 2020 – Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline based in Barnard Castle announce they are teaming up to develop a coronavirus vaccine.
